This was a university project where we had to design card art for a plague hammer. The brief was "An emaciated, lightly armored hand hangs into frame gripping a large, brutish war hammer, a mixture of metal and festering flesh. The hammer oozes as it swings in its owners grasp, leaving behind a trail of necrotic plague that infects and spreads across the ground it covers. "
I started with silhouettes which I then combined to get a hammer that I liked. I made a 3d model of this and then did some thumbnail sketches and then used a photo of me holding a mop for reference in the final composition.
I started with some silhouettes for possible hammer designs then added some flesh like body parts over the hammer.
I then combined aspects of the silhouettes that I liked together to try and create a hammer with different bits of flesh bone and shape.

For the final composition, I used a photo of me holding a mop and also made a 3d model of the hammer in blender for reference of lighting, shape, and composition.
